Cybercriminals have been targeting VPNs for years because it's a single point of entry into an organization's network and allows remote access to its resources. This event will expose the challenges with VPNs, highlighting how cyber threat actors utilize new techniques that render VPNs ineffective in helping organizations protect themselves against online threats such as ransomware or data theft. According to recently published Valley of Kings: SDP Rising and The Fall of VPNs," whitepaper citing a Zscaler report, "93 percent of organizations surveyed have deployed VPNs, even though that same survey shows that 94 percent know that VPNs are a popular target for cybercriminals.

With the rise of cloud computing and mobile devices, organizations need a new way to secure their networks. Software-Defined Perimeter (SDP) solutions offer a zero-trust security model that uses authentication and authorization to control access to the network. This makes it more difficult for cybercriminals to compromisean organization's network. In addition, SDP solutions can reduce latency and improve performance by microsegmenting the network. And because they don't rely on passwords, SDP solutions are more secure than traditional perimeter security models.

The event and panel will also discuss the benefits of zero-trust techniques and what considerations companies should take, including why they should take it further and make it 'zero everything.' (Zero usernames, zero performance bottlenecks, zero exposure to bugs and zero configuration).

ABOUT THE FILM

A Cannes Independent Film Festival nominated and San Francisco Indie Short Festival semi-finalist, Catastrophe, Inc. is a gripping new cyber-thriller that explores the vulnerabilities of VPNs. The narrative is centered on a fictional financial company. When a major cyber-attack brings down their VPNs and exposes the company's confidential data, employees are forced to scramble as they race against time to identify the source of the intrusion and prevent further damage. While some may assume that high-level security measures like VPNs will protect against all attacks, this film illustrates how fallible they can be in the face of determined hackers. The film's release is timed perfectly with today's heightened awareness of cybersecurity risks.
